Barcelona : Parc Güell
I finally made it back to Parc Güell. I stumbled upon this park while out running my first week in Barcelona, half a lifetime ago. Rouding up by halfs. It was much better experiencing it without people looking at you in disgust as you drip sweat everywhere. After getting off at the Lesseps stop, we meandered up the Escalator District until we entered the Parc,
The fabled Parc got its start back in 1899 when this über rich dude, Eusebi Güell, wanted to create segregated housing for his über rich friends. After purchasing the land he hired famed architect Antoni Gaudcí, whose works make people feel motion sick, to design the layout. In 1914 Güell realized no one had any money to purchase houses, so the work stopped. The city susequently bought the place in 1918, and in 1923 the city council officially deemed it a park so they could justify selling highly marked up coffee that doesn't taste good but Chris will drink it anyway because they're the only game in town. And then, there was much rejoicing.
Afterward Greg and I continued our American Francise Tour at Burger King, where you can get a cervesa with your value meal at no extra cost.
